Lately getting my whole family to agree on dinner has been pretty rough. Even more so than normal. So, I thought I’d try something new – make-your-own poke bowls. With enough options, the whole family is sure to love them.
Yes, there are a lot of ingredients, but most of them were just removed from a bag or jar and placed into bowls. You could always keep them in their containers and then you have an easy clean-up as an added bonus.
Ingredients:
Tuna, Chicken, or Steak
Sesame Oil
Avocado sliced
Carrots – shredded
English Cucumbers – sliced
Lettuce – I used an Asian Salad mix so the lettuce mix had sliced cabbage and came with those crunchy toppers as a bonus
Jasmine rice – any rice will do
Cilantro – cut
Kimchi – I used fermented vegetables from Wake Robin Foods
Mushrooms – sliced
Green onions – sliced
Black beans
Optional Sauces:
Soy sauce
Teriyaki
Sesame Ginger
Ranch – for the really picky eater
Sriracha
Yum yum sauce
Directions:
Add sesame oil to the pan and cook your protein. I pan seared yellowfin tuna for about 4 minutes a side and then let it sit for 5 minutes.
Cook your rice.
Set out all the ingredients and let your family build your own bowl. My littlest had a plain bowl of rice with tuna steak and cucumbers on the side. But, the rest of us got more creative with the toppings and sauces. Here’s what my poke bowl ended up looking like right before I stirred it up.
It was a hit! Try it and report back if you used any different ingredients that were a success with your family. We want to know!
